Emphasis

When speaking we emphasize something by speaking louder, in writing one might use italics. Newspaper headlines are in large type. To make people notice something we use emphasis.

Emphasis in knife making is not as simple as doing "bold" print. One must use the design elements quite wisely. Use space to emphasize small features such as mosaic pins and fine scrimshaw. The upward sweep of a Persian dagger is emphasized by the downward curve of the handle.

The pattern of a Damascus blade is emphasized by etching and / or bluing.
