Post Vice on a homemade stand.

A post vice (leg vice) should be securely fastened near the forge, and is an almost indispensable tool in the blacksmithing workshop. In the picture above the smith fastened some hooks to the stand to hang tools he frequently uses when working on the vice. This includes a wire brush, rivet heading clamps, bending horns, a bending fork, large bastard cut file for hot rasping and twisting tools.

(A large engineering vice can be used, but it will not withstand the long term heavy hammering done in a blacksmithing environment.)
