Size is related to purpose. To
deliver industrial machinery you hire a truck. For a small package, you
use a motorcycle.
One can often do the work of a
small knife with a large knife, but to do the work of a large knife with a
small knife is quite a task. There are many tasks for which a small knife
is indispensable, such as performing an appendectomy.
On some jobs bigger is better:
chopping kindling and beheading intruders.
Size can attract potential
buyers to your table.
When designing knives, the
weight of the knife is
directly related to its size, and one can accurately place
the weight where it is needed. An excellent example of weight placement is
the kukri, which widens to the front to counteract weight loss due to a
distal taper.
